Editor's Note

Hey Valley fam —

This weekend is stacked in the best way. From festivals that celebrate who we are to community events that remind us why the 956 hits different, there’s something happening in every corner of the Valley.

We’re also spotlighting something real this week — not just fun, but impact. From local wins to a pup who needs us, this edition is about showing up. Whether it’s supporting a 5K, pulling up to a downtown market, or sharing a post that helps a dog find a home… it all matters.

So text your group chat, make a plan, and don’t stay home all weekend (unless it’s for a Netflix recharge — we get it 😅).

Let’s get into it.

Harlingen Earns National Spotlight

Big win for the Valley — the City of Harlingen just landed a spot as one of only 20 finalists nationwide for the 2026 All-America City Award, and the only city representing Texas. It’s a major nod to the way the community shows up, works together, and keeps pushing things forward. Next stop: presenting those homegrown success stories on the national stage this summer — let’s show them what the 956 is all about. Read More→

Pet of the Week - 956 Pulse Newsletter BannerPet of the Week: Brainy Smurf

MeetBrainy Smurf— a 1-year, 2-month-old Shepherd mix currently at Palm Valley Animal Society’s Trenton Center.

She’s playful, energetic, and thrives in playgroups, but after spending over a year in the shelter, she’s now experiencing severe kennel anxiety and urgently needs a foster or forever home before 4/13. Brainy Smurf deserves space to run, daily walks, and a real chance at life beyond the kennel.
